People live up (or down) to the expectations of those they admire. I don't see admiration in this case. Those of you who think public humiliation is good should read some Puritan writing sometime. Such a society is like the proverbial rotten candied apple.

by thepackage inguns, should jw's have them?
i know brothers that hunt on wt property in ny for deer.
what is the answer????

I have had guns my entire life. I don't understand the fear associated with them. They are a tool like anything else. Who in the hell cares if JW's have guns?

Should people try to speak the language of the land when visiting?
by JH inas most of you know, i live in quebec (90% french) and i was at the convenience store a moment ago.. there was a lady from ontario in her 50's who stopped at the conveniece store to ask the clerc for directions in english.
the girl at the cash tried her best to speak english and give her the right directions.
then a client came in the convenience store and saw the lady talking in english.

really
by John Doe in[23:23] so friends, hypothetically, and i repeat, hypothetically, even if an angel were to come down here and land on this platform, today, at this moment, and to present something to us that didn't fit into the pattern of truth, what should we be ready to do?
we should be ready to say, " hold on there, that doesn't fit into the pattern, and i am not going to listen to it!
" yes, even if it were one of jehovah's angels..

I was just browsing the quotes site, (I do that occasionally) and I came across this excert from the 2003 convention. I couldn't beleive what I was hearing, and seeing how they attempt to reconcile this with the bulk of the talk which was about avoiding everything the society tells them to avoid. I think it speaks for itself. This next quote is from a bit further into the talk:
[26:20] Matthew chapter 17 verse 5 tells us that Jehovah's voice was heard on one particular occasion from heaven, saying with reference to Jesus, "This is my Son, my beloved, whom I have approved. Listen to him." So we listen to Jehovah, by listening to the Fine Shepherd, Christ Jesus. And we do that, today, by listening to the Faithful and Discreet Slave, who Jesus appointed over all his belongings to give us our spiritual food at the proper time. All the abundance of spiritual good things that we receive, including this convention arrangement.

Elders, perfect kind men who should be respected.
by free2beme ini know some former witnesses away from the board and when we have talked, we have commented on how we still see people put elders in this category, even after the exit.
once in a discussion with someone who used to be an elder, the person who used to be an elder did something kind of harsh in their comments.
the person in the group stated, "there is no way someone like you would have ever been an elder.

Ouija Board
by Inquisitor inhas anyone ever played with an ouija board?.
is the game as dangerous as has been suggested by the wts all this while?
wts seems confident that all inexplicable events associated with the game comes from a supernatural source, and not a psychological one.

Humans are very clever at tricking themselves. [...] However, I have the feeling that when subjected to rigorous method, the Ouija board will unfortunately fail to produce any effect.
I don't believe in this stuff either, but can you see an irony in your last paragraph?

Of Late Many Here Seem To Be Preaching Aethiesm..
by Qcmbr inwhen i first came here a while back there was plenty of discussion around and about jw topics and general chit chat but of late i've felt quite a sharp increase in posts that are: .
1/ preaching aethism (as opposed to putting it forward in a respectful way as an alternate viewpoint.
2/ vitriolic attacks on those who dare have another view ('damn those stupid heretical believers') .

I should amend my statement before I get attacked. :-) I was being facetious and realize that I fall far short of my ideals, but the subject of my last post is my ideal.
